I’m Robbin. CD/AD from a small town in Sweden, “about an hour south of Stockholm”. Currently living in Los Angeles.
Growing up with only two state-controlled commercial-free TV channels, it wasn’t apparent that advertising was something you could do for a living.
But as long as I remember, I enjoyed making things. Like shooting films on a primitive camcorder and editing them on two tangled together VHS cassette players, developing a year long nerdy RPG adventure without opening the rule book, organizing a local poster competition, running the local cinema with my best friends or making a short “Lord of the Rings” remake written by and starring kids with special needs.
Out of high school, I landed a 9-5 job as an assistant at the Swedish Migration Board. My proud grandmother called to congratulate me on my new, in her eyes, long-life career. But what I really loved doing was everything on all hours but 9 – 5 — graphic design, art, films, posters, websites and so on. Soon after that call, someone paid me to make graphic designs, and I realized that maybe one day I could make that my 9-ish-5-ish job.
15 years later, my grandmother is puzzled of exactly what I do for ”that phone company” in Los Angeles. Specifically, I work for TBWA/Media Arts Lab as a CD on everything Apple. Before that I was “living optimism” at 72 and Sunny, “jumping on grenades” at CP+B and “walking in stupid” at W+K. But I learnt the most simply by “making stuff” for clients such as Apple, Xbox, Activision, Microsoft, Under Armor, Nike, Google and Sonos to name a few.
